Easyscreen

GETTING STARTED: This program runs on Windows 95, 98, NT, or 2000. This powerful software will capture or print any screen image, whether you are on your desktop, or on the internet. You can also save the screen image in a graphic format, including the popular "JPEG" format, and you can alter the JPEG compression level to make the image clearer or smaller in size. You can even save part of the image by simply drawing a rectangle around the image you would like to save or print. Other neat features include printing the screen image, converting any screen image/picture into JPEG pictures, embedding text messages directly into saved images, printing a list of folder contents, and passing the images into "PC Paintbrush" so you can modify, edit, or change the screen image. (All registered users will also receive a free electronic address book software for saving names, phone numbers, addresses, comments, and more, all on your pc.)

HELP FAQ

Can I save captured images as JPEG images?

Yes, just select the "Save as Jpeg" button. JPEGs are extremely popular because they are compressed, and take up a very small amount of disk space compared to other image types. They can also be used on webpages, and are the standard image type, viewable by almost all applications and browsers.

Why are my captured images blurry or unclear? Some are dark and have odd colors.

Your captured images should be clear. If this is not the case, then you probably have your desktop set to 256 color. Simply go into your "control panel", click "Display", click "Settings" and set your color to the "high color" option or the "true color" option. (It may also say 16-bit or 32-bit, just select one of these and click OK). This gives your monitor better clarity and will allow Easyscreen to capture the images much clearer! Also, for JPEG captures, you can alter the clarity by changing the compression level when saving the image.

How do I convert an image into a JPEG, and then save it?

You can use the "Convert Images" button (see next question), but if you are only converting one image it is probably easier for you just to do a screen capture of that picture and save it. Simply display any image on your screen, using your web browser or any other application. Then run "Easyscreen" to capture the screen. You can then "crop or cut out" just the part you want and save it as a jpeg image. You even add text messages directly into the image. (See next question).

How do I convert many images to JPEG at once?

Click the "Convert Images" button. To select a drive and folder, simply click the "Select a Folder" button and choose ANY image in the folder of your choice. It doesn't matter what image you select, just choose one and your folder path will appear in the box. You can then click the Convert button to convert all images in that folder. Nothing is actually deleted, so your new images will be the same name as the current images in the folder, except the extension will be different. The extension will be JPG for jpeg or BMP for bitmaps.

How do I embed text messages directly into saved images?

This option automatically appears when you click "Capture An Area". Once you capture (crop) an area, a window opens allowing you many different options. Simply click the button that says "Click here to add text" and you will have more choices on where you wish to add the text.

Can I capture dos images?

If it shows on your screen, Easyscreen will capture it. If you are running in dos mode, then you can't run windows programs. Simply run windows, then execute your dos program by clicking the ms-dos prompt and then use Easyscreen to capture any window or image.

Can I capture "pull down" menus on applications?

Yes, this new version of Easyscreen allows you to capture "pull down" menus if necessary. Since "pull down" menus disappear whenever you click a button, the new "Capture pull down menus" button will pause for several seconds before capturing the screen. This allows you to quickly click and show any pull down menus before the screen capture happens!

How do I print "cropped images"?

When you "Capture an area" and wish to print it, you can either select the print option then click "OK", or simply select the option to pass it into PC Paintbrush, then click "File", then "Print". If you print using the print button, it will stretch the image larger, allowing you to print smaller images at larger sizes. If you wish to print at the actual size, simply pass into PC Paintbrush and then click "File", "Print".

What does "Copy to Clipboard" do?

Once you click the "Copy to Clipboard" option, the image is automatically placed in the windows clipboard area (hidden). If you open another software program, and use the "paste" feature on that software, the image is still in the clipboard and will automatically paste into the application. This is very handy for transferring screenshots, parts of screen images, etc. into Word documents or other software applications. (If you cannot paste into some other application, please contact support for that application).

Can I print the contents in any folder?

Yes, you can send any folder's file names to your printer. Simply click the "Print Folder Contents" button. When the window opens, you can then either type in a drive and folder path (i.e. c:\myfoldername\ ) or click the "View and Select Folder" button to view your drive, and double-click ANY file in that folder, and the folder name will appear in the box. Then click "Print". You can also choose to print the contents alphabetically, which is another nice advantage.
